(My Original Blog Post: http://ping.fm/ug8P2)According to the Spanish airport authority, AENA, the displacement of the cloud of volcanic ash in Spanish airspace has now forced the closure of 16 Spanish airports.
The airports of Zaragoza, Huesca-Pirineos and Son Bonet. Barcelona, Girona-Costa Brava, Reus, Sabadell, Asturias, Santander, Bilbao, San Sebastian, Vitoria, Pamplona, LogroƱo-Agoncillo, Palma de Mallorca and Menorca all remain closed and will stay closed until at least 8:00pm (20:00) today. The problem also affects Lleida Airport, which does not belong to the Aena network.
Aena suggest passengers flying in the next hours to contact their airline or transport agent before going to the airport, preferably by using the internet as their telephone call centres are very busy at this time.
Also, according to Eurocontrol, airspace has currently total or partial restrictions for operation of civilian aircraft in the following countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Finland, Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Romania, Switzerland and Ukraine.
