Female dog guards body of her dead companion for 15 days

An animal welfare organization reported that “A couple of dogs gave a lesson in fidelity after Dulcinea, a mongrel dog, watched for more than fifteen days, the corpse of another dog run over on a highway near Madrid.”

Dulcinea, about one year old, was risking her life amid the vehicles to protect her dead companion, who was lying in the ditch beside the road.

That is the testimony given by several motorists who saw Dulcinea apparently defending the other dog’s body.

After receiving calls from motorists who saw the animal alongside the highway, authorities managed to Dulcinea to sleep with tranquilizer darts and capture her with the aim of getting her adopted, the ‘El Refugio’ animal welfare organization said.
